Bill served as a professional intelligence officer with the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) for ten years, working in analysis, operations and threat. Prior to leaving the Organisation, Bill coordinated a national detachment and had oversight of the Organisation’s airport based resources. In 2000, Bill managed liaison between the Sydney Olympic Intelligence Centre and the Sydney Operations office in the lead up to, and during the Olympic Games. Bill received ASIO’s Certificate of Appreciation for Meritorious Service.
Bill was recruited to the Qantas as the International Security Risk Manager where he was responsible for advising the Qantas Group on security threat and risks to its global operations, including its flying businesses, terminal operations and commercial and corporate operations. As an executive with the Security Operations team, Bill recommended and implemented appropriate mitigation measures for the businesses, their facilities and personnel. During his five years with Qantas, Bill travelled extensively assessing physical security at airports and hotels, as well as assessing at first hand the security environment in high risk ports. Bill’s time with Qantas covered a period of heightened tension, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as bombings in Indonesia, India and Europe.
While at Qantas, Bill was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contributions and dedicated support from the ASIS International Global Terrorism, Political Instability and International Crime Council.
Over the past ten years, Bill has undertaken projects with the Australian Office of Transport Security covering air cargo security and Aviation Security Identity Cards. He has been a leader in a major review of air cargo security at Changi Airport for the Singaporean Ministry of Transport and has undertaken reviews of Aviation Identity cards, airport access control and training for the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
